Negri, McCann,
Iannacone, Hoop honored by Scholars' Recognition
program
Dorothy Negri, teacher of the New Visions:
Health Careers program based at St. Peter's Hospital, has been
honored by the 2007 Capital Region Scholars' Recognition program.
She was nominated by her student, Molly McCann of
Scotia-Glenville, who was the honoree for Career & Tech's Albany
campus. The Schoharie campus Scholar is Hospitality Technology &
Culinary Arts student Aimee Hoop of Cobleskill-Richmondville,
who also named her teacher, Chef Nancy Iannacone, for the
honor.
The
program is a joint effort of the Capital Area School Development
Association, SUNY Albany and the Times Union, which publishes a
special supplement annually honoring students and teachers from area high
schools and BOCES. They are also celebrated at an annual dinner and awards
ceremony.
"Molly
McCann is an outstanding New Visions student who has perfect attendance and a
solid A average, is active in sports and the community, and works afterschool to save money for
college," noted Negri. "Her goal is to become a physician, and she
transferred to Scotia-Glenville High School so she could enroll in New
Visions, from Shaker High School, which does not allow its students to
enroll in BOCES Career & Technical School classes."
"My
dream of becoming a physician is a closer reality because of Mrs. Negri,"
said McCann. "She has been an inspiration because of her dedication, motivation
and support. I am always encouraged to succeed and [believe] 'a man's reach
should exceed his grasp' (a Robert Browning quote learned in New Visions)."
Schoharie campus Hospitality Technology & Culinary Arts student and Capital
Region Scholar Aimee Hoop "has proven herself to be a leader in the
classroom and in her part-time job," said Iannacone. "She is a member of our
culinary team that placed first in the state ProStart competition in January
and competed nationally in April. Aimee is talented, sincere and extremely
conscientious."
Hoop
noted, "With Chef Iannacone's help, I participated in the ProStart
competitions. With the skills she has taught me and the confidence she has
helped me build, our team placed first in the state. This has been one of
best experiences of my academic career."
Both
Hoop and McCann are high school seniors.
