Auto students
take 2nd and 3rd in ENYCAR Regional Automotive Technician Student
Competition
Two students to head to NYC
this spring to compete nationally
Career & Tech's powerful reputation as a leading educator in
automotive technology was revved once again on Friday, January 5
when our teams scored 2nd and 3rd in the Eastern NY Coalition of
Automotive Retailers (ENYCAR) Regional Automotive Technician Student
Competition at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
With two teams heading to NYC for the Automotive Technician Student
National Competition this spring, our 2nd place winners, Shaun
Halfacre, a senior in our AYES Automotive Technician program and
at Schenectady HS, and Justin Dykeman, a senior in our
Automotive Trades Technology program and at Duanesburg HS, will
compete along with the first place regional winning team from
Hoosick HS.
Shaun and Justin trained for the competition at and were sponsored
by Langan Audi East. Thank you Langan!
Taking a very close 3rd in the competition, which included written,
work station and hands-on car debugging events, was Career & Tech's
team of Sean Hognestad, a senior in our AYES Automotive
Technician program and at Voorheesville HS and Nicholas Plant,
a senior in our AYES Automotive Technician program and at Duanesburg
HS.
Sean and Nick trained at and were sponsored by Orange Motors. Thanks
Orange!
Congrats to our teams and their current teachers, Rich Bellizzi and
Dan Rupracht and junior year teacher Matt Millard! Thanks also go
out to AYES alum and 2004 National Auto Tech Competition Champion
Todd Clark, who cheered on our teams Friday night, along with Career
& Tech staff.
Thanks of course also go out to the Eastern NY Coalition of
Automotive Retailers (ENYCAR), the trade association that puts the
whole competition together and a big champion of all of our
automotive programs, and all of the automotive businesses that
sponsor the event including BG Products the Total Tool Inc. Watch
for articles by ENYCAR in the Times Union Automotive Weekly in the
next few weeks about the competition and, in February, about Sam
Frink's Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Repair program.
