Fashion Studies students stage show at Colonie Center
Fashion Studies student and Shenendehowa grad Jamal
McBurnie (left), and Fashion Studies and Niskayuna student Lindsey Bratcher
modeled new designs and helped stage a Back To School Fashion Show in August
at Colonie Center mall. Fashion show production is a unit of study in their
Career & Tech program where students gain practical experience while
implementing what they learn in class.
Joining the Fashion Studies
class in modeling and working at the fashion show were a number of students
from area schools, including the children of a number of Capital Region
BOCES employees. Show participants took classes in modeling, had their hair
and makeup professionally done, and received generous gift cards and goodie
bags from Colonie Center, one of Career & Tech's key business partners and
supporters.

Colonie Center's staff
marketing experts worked with Fashion Studies Teacher Judy Hicks, helping to
coordinate the various merchants being showcased and producing a show script
complete with plot and positive attitude. The event was enjoyed by all and
featured many great fall fashions for young people and their families.
Fashion Studies prepares high
school students for college-level study in fashion merchandising, marketing
and retail. Students learn key business and entrepreneurial skills as well
and are offered the opportunity to study abroad during trips to Paris,
London, Italy and other global fashion centers.
