Building & Grounds Maintenance

Special needs students in the Building & Grounds Maintenance program at the Schoharie campus prepare for a range of employment opportunities. The houses, apartment buildings, offices, schools, hospitals, hotels, stores, parks, athletic fields and college campuses we use every day have one thing in common: They all must be maintained. Building & Grounds Maintenance students are exposed to a wide variety of skills and are prepared for employment or further education.

Students develop skills in eight areas: electricity, plumbing, carpentry, welding, landscaping, equipment maintenance and repair, blueprint reading, and janitorial duties. Students work on individual and group projects, and the program is designed to teach important concepts such as responsibility, teamwork, proper workplace behavior, quality and customer service.
