Computer & Network Technician

The fastest growing careers in our nation involve computers. In the Computer & Network Technician program, students learn in our computer and network lab and through extensive, hands-on, real-life experiences. Students prepare for exams in multiple areas of nationally recognized certification, including A+ computer service technician, N+ and S+ network technician and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.

Off-campus work experiences and internships enable students to advance their skills and employability. Upon completion of the program, students may pursue further education or enter the workforce. Students interested in the Computer & Network Technician program must complete an application and interview process.

Workplace safety
Fundamentals of electronics
Computer & peripheral repair, troubleshooting, service & preventive maintenance
Disk operating systems
Fundamentals of telecommunications
Training and consulting
Customer service

Units of Study-Computer Network Technician (Cisco Networking Academy):
WAN and LAN theory & design
Network topologies, architecture & protocols
Network service, troubleshooting & maintenance
Network operating systems
Integrated science and/or English

Portfolio:
Students create a portfolio which they present to teachers, administrators, peers and/or industry professionals. The portfolio includes employability information and exemplary work in technical and communication skills that students have created and developed over the course of the year.

College credit:
The Capital Region Career & Technical School has articulation agreements with:

ITT Technical Institute
SUNY Cobleskill

Academic Prerequisites:
Application and interview
9th and 10th grade English
9th and 10th grade social studies
Two years of math including Math A or Course I
Two years of science
Health
A good attendance record and keyboarding skills are recommended.
