AYES Automotive Technician

The Capital Region Career & Technical School, Albany campus, is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, Inc. (NATEF) to offer the Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) Automotive Technician program. AYES is a national automotive industry program heavily supported by manufacturers including BMW, Chrysler, General Motors, Honda, Mercedes Benz, Mini Cooper, Nissan, Rolls Royce, Subaru and Toyota.

The AYES Automotive Technician program provides extensive technical education and work experience, both paid and unpaid, to ensure students gain as much exposure to their chosen field as possible. Students enroll in AYES during their junior year of high school and continue as seniors. In the Career & Tech classroom and labs, students work on late-model vehicles donated by automotive manufacturers. After a year of classroom and school lab education, during the summer between their junior and senior years, qualified AYES students are placed into and begin a 400-hour paid internship at local automotive dealership. They work with a trained technician mentor and gain firsthand knowledge of how a service department operates and what career opportunities are available. Students frequently continue working with their mentor after school hours and through their senior year.

AYES students also can earn college credits through Hudson Valley Community College, Columbia-Greene Community College, Universal Technical Institute and the University of Northwestern Ohio, putting them in advanced standing if they pursue an associate's degree after high school. Auto dealerships may continue to offer sponsorship and employment opportunities throughout a student's college enrollment.

AYES also offers a tool scholarship where students can earn full ownership of a starter set of tools at a dramatically discounted price.
