Theatre Arts Technology

Is your future on the stage or behind the scenes? Are the performing arts your passion? Career and Tech offers a two-year program in Theatre Arts Technology in partnership with Proctor's Theatre, Schenectady, where classes are held.

Theatre Arts Technology and Proctor's provide students with lots of opportunities to experience the world of theatre hands-on and in real-time. Proctor's is recognized as a premier center for the arts and has significantly expanded and enhanced its facilities to offer even greater benefits for students and the community.

Theatre Arts Technology will build your understanding of and appreciation for theatre as a cultural, recreational and aesthetic force. You'll learn about technical aspects of theatrical production including design interpretation, tools and equipment, building materials, construction and painting techniques, and stage lighting equipment and procedures. 
Your backstage education will be complemented by learning experiences in performance in a fun and creative atmosphere. And internships and job shadowing will build real-world skill while helping you explore career opportunities.

First-year students in Theatre Arts Technology can earn credit for integrated science, and second-year students can earn credit for integrated English. 

Upon completion of the program, you'll be well-prepared to continue your studies at college.

Prerequisites:
- Successful completion of 10th grade academic requirements.
- Passage of a Regents science exam.
- Record of positive attendance and behavior.
- Ability to work well with others.

College credit:
Schenectady County Community College

Portfolio:
Students create a portfolio for presentation to teachers, peers, administrators and/or industry professionals. The portfolio includes employability information and exemplary work in communication and technical skills which the student has created during the school year.

As a Theatre Arts Technology student, you will:
• Explore your future career and all it has to offer.
• Experience the world of theatre hands-on in the exciting atmosphere of Proctor's Theatre.
• Learn academics within the context of something you enjoy.
• Gain real-world experience through job shadowing and internships.
• Learn alongside peers who share your interests and dreams.
