Career & Tech School students inducted into National Technical Honor Society

They are honored for excellence at Career & Tech and at home high schools in Guilderland, Ravena and Rotterdam

Four students at the Capital Region Career & Technical School in Colonie were honored for career and technical and academic excellence by being inducted February 8 into the National Technical Honor Society. The students live in Guilderland, Ravena and Rotterdam.

The National Technical Honor Society recognizes outstanding achievement at both the Career & Technical School, where most students spend half their school day, and a student's home high school. To be inducted into the National Technical Honor Society, a student must earn a 92 average or higher at Career & Tech, have five or fewer absences and hold an overall average of 85 or higher at his or her home high school.

The newest members of the National Technical Honor Society are: Elizabeth Hart, a student in Career & Tech's Early Childhood Education program who is also a senior at Guilderland High School; Victoria Duncan, also a Career & Tech Early Childhood Education student and senior at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School; Corey O'Donnell, a student in Career & Tech's Welding & Metal Fabrication program and a senior at Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School; and Rachael Dollar, a Career & Tech Culinary Arts & Hospitality Technology student who is also a senior at Mohonasen High School.

Career & Tech's Honor students have clear educational and career goals. After graduation, Hart plans to continue her studies in early childhood education at Hudson Valley Community College. Next fall, Duncan will study elementary education at West Virginia Wesleyan College. O'Donnell will further his education in welding at SUNY Delhi, and Dollar will attend Schenectady County Community College, where she will study baking and pastry.

The mission of the National Technical Honor Society is to honor student achievement and leadership, promote educational excellence and enhance career opportunities for career and technical students.
