76 graduate from Career & Tech's Practical
Nursing for Adult Students program
They'll help meet critical nursing shortage
in region and beyond
Seventy-six local residents graduated on June 28 from the full-time
Practical Nursing for Adult Students program at the Capital Region BOCES
Career & Technical School in an evening celebration marking their launch
into a career where their skills are greatly needed.
The
ceremony was held at the Mohonasen High School auditorium to accommodate the
size of the graduating class and their families and friends.
Career & Tech offers full-time and part-time programs in Practical Nursing
for Adult Students. The June 28th graduates completed their studies in one
school year, learning in classrooms, labs and through off-campus clinical
experiences at several healthcare facilities. They are now prepared to take
the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become Licensed
Practical Nurses.
In
addition to working as LPNs, they also may continue their education to
become Registered Nurses. Many of the graduates currently work as Certified
Nurse Assistants.
Nursing is a profession in high demand locally and across the nation. An
overall shortage of nurses will worsen as those currently employed retire
and as America's population ages and requires more health care.
