Tech Valley Summer Camp seeks 8th graders

Capital Region school districts are invited to nominate students (one boy and one girl) who will enter 8th grade next fall for Tech Valley Summer Camp, which will be held August 7-11 2006. The fun and education-packed camp is presented jointly by the Capital Region BOCES and Questar III BOCES.

At Tech Camp, students learn alongside professionals about subjects such as engineering, nanotechnology, biotechnology and information technology. The camp experience builds students' skills in team learning, problem solving, and critical thinking, all essential to their success not only in school or career but in life overall. They also have fun!

A total of 12 girls and 12 boys entering 8th grade in fall 2006 will be selected by lottery for Tech Camp. The weeklong experience runs from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at various businesses and university locations in Tech Valley.

Students do not have to have any special experience in hands-on science or technology to be nominated. They should, however, be able to work responsibly in a group, be willing to attend a weeklong summer day camp August 7- 11, and preferably have transportation to and from camp.

Thanks to local sponsorship, there is no cost to the student for attending Tech Camp!

For more information, contact Tammie Borland at Questar III BOCES, via e-mail at tborland@questar.org.
